For Current GEST Students Only

For Current GEST Students Only

We highly encourage you to move to your desired major as soon as you meet Change of Major requirements.  Check our handy list of all Change of Major requirements for all majors to see if/when you are eligible https://tap.tamu.edu/Main/changeOfMajor.pdf.  If the major you want to get to will require you to take more classes, or achieve a higher GPA in the spring, you must complete this online continuation form https://cas.tamu.edu/cas/login?service=https://tap.tamu.edu/jump.aspx&renew=true letting TAP/GEST know what major you are aiming for.  Remember, it is not wise to request a major for which it will take you more than one more (spring 2015) term to reasonably meet the requirements.  You will get turned down.  The appeal to continue must be submitted AND approved BEFORE you will be released to register for spring classes as a GEST student.  This is only a reminder.  You have received an email dated near or on October 16 about this from TAP that has more details.  Read it please.  Note:  All current GEST students will have a hold on your spring registration until you are either approved to continue or you have officially (as in it has been changed in the computer) been switched to your new major.  This hold cannot be removed any other way.  If you have questions about the process READ that email.  If you have further questions please see a TAP/GEST advisor.

SEMESTER GRADES

Spring 2014 semester grades will be sent by professors to the Registrar's Office by noon on Monday, May 12th.
All semester grades should be posted in students' records on Tuesday, May 13th.

OPEN REGISTRATION FOR TAMU SUMMER AND FALL CLASSES

REGISTRATION FOR SUMMER AND FALL CLASSES - The regular registration period is now open, students will be able to register for session classes through the second day of each summer term (SS1, 10-week and SS2) and through the fifth day of the fall semester.

LAB SAFETY ACKNOWLEDGEMENT - please remember that for any semester in which you want to register for a laboratory science course you must first complete the Lab Safety Acknowledgement. You can find this on your HOWDY Portal.

CLASSES FULL, UNABLE TO REGISTER - General Studies advisors are unable to force register students for any classes. Only the departments that create the course have force authority. However, at this point, most departments will not force students into classes. This is especially true for lab classes that are limited by the number of lab stations in the lab classroom where they are to take place.

HOLDS - Check your account for holds. Not all holds will prevent you from registering.

COURSE RESTRICTIONS - Make sure you qualify to be enrolled in a course or a specific course section. For example, any fall semester course section in the 200 range is limited to honors students. Other common restrictions limit a course or course section to a particular group or classifications (freshmen. sophomores, juniors and/or seniors) Click on the colored "Restrictions" label that is just under the course listing to make sure you can register for the course.

If you still have difficulty, TAP/'General Studies advisors are available throughout the summer. Walk-in advising will be available from May 18 through September 5. Advising will not be available during days when Blinn Advising Days or New Student Conferences are taking place. Call ahead to be sure you will be able to see an advisor.

Spring 2012 Final Grades & Filing Acknowledgement of Probation or Appeal for Continued Enrollment

GEST students, all grades for spring 2012 classes should be posted by 5:00 PM on Tuesday, May 15th. Typically, the University will not take any action until 5 days latter to allow for corrections and any needed adjustments.

After your grades are posted if you happen to have an TAMU cumulative GPA that is below 2.0, you will need to file an on-line appeal for continued enrollment or acknowledgemen...t of probation to remain in General Studies. Contact an academic advisor for guidance on which of these two categories applies to your personal situation.

Acknowledgement of Probation and Appeal for Continued Enrollment forms will be available on the General Studies web site and must be submitted by July 1.

After Spring 2012 grades are posted...
GEST students who have a TAMU cumulative GPA below 2.00 with a grade point deficit of -1 to -4 grade points must file an Acknowledge of Probation Form found on-line at http://gest.tamu.edu/.

GEST students who have a TAMU cumulative GPA below 2.00 with a grade point deficit of -5 to -9 grade points must file an Appeal for Continued Enrollment Form found on-line at http://gest.tamu.edu/.

GEST students who have a TAMU cumulative GPA below 2.00 with a grade point deficit of -10 or more negative points will be dismissed from General Studies.  However, such students may still appeal to remain in  General Studies or appeal to remain enrolled at TAMU for the fall 2012 semester by being accepted into a major in a degree-granting college.
